Non-timber Forest Products and Poaching (4-minute Video)

What does a topic like non-timber forest products (NTFPs) have to do with anti-poaching?
If we don't address the root cause of poaching, solving the problem becomes difficult, and sustainable community development and conservation strategies are closely linked.
NTFPs provide alternative livelihoods for communities that might otherwise turn to poaching.
When local people can harvest and sell products like medicinal plants, fruits, nuts, honey, mushrooms, and handicraft materials from forests without cutting down trees, they gain sustainable income sources that reduce incentives for illegal wildlife hunting.
This short infographic video, based on "The State of the Wildlife Economy in Africa" produced by the School of Wildlife Conservation, gives a detailed overview.
