Private Countryside Estates in Spain: An Estate Owner’s Story
German Gamazo Hohenlohe manages a countryside estate that has been in the family for almost 150 years. The property is unique in that it is a mixture of ancient oak trees and pastures (called a dehesa) and a Mediterranean forest that is thousands of years old.
Because of the soil's makeup and the harsh climatic conditions of Central Spain, hunting is the estate's most profitable land use.
Poaching is a perennial problem, and German relies on his dedicated gamekeepers and technology to keep the poachers out.
