Professional Hunters on Patrol (8-Minute Video)
When Mark Haldane of Zambezi Delta Safaris (ZDS) took over Coutada 11's hunting lease in 1992, the area was almost devoid of human and animal life. With much grit and determination, ZDS began rehabilitating the hunting area. Mark realized that a full-time anti-poaching unit would have to be employed. Ex-poachers make the best game rangers, and Mark started his team with five resident ex-poachers.
Today, the unit has grown to 25 professionally trained, well-equipped rangers who are deployed on foot, in helicopters and vehicles, and on motorbikes.
Although a professional anti-poaching team is in place, ZDS professional hunters are expected to go out on anti-poaching patrols from time to time.
