Three Pillars of Conservation Support (4-minute Video)
Mozambique has a vast network of protected areas, about 25% of the territory. That responsibility comes with many challenges.
The Mozambique Wildlife Alliance (MWA) is a local Mozambican nonprofit organization that was conceptualized, created and then developed to address specific conservation issues in Mozambique.
The idea was to create a support structure for the Mozambique National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) to help implement their mandate.
Thirty-two people currently staff the MWA: three ex-pats and 29 Mozambicans, including five wildlife veterinarians. Nine funding organizations support MWA in providing free services to the government.
João Almeida is a director and wildlife vet for MWA. In this video, he discusses the three pillars of conservation support MWA provides to ANAC.
